SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – South Hadley students will attend their prom Saturday, but first they had an important lesson to learn about driving under the influence.
Every year for the past five years, the South Hadley High School Resource Officer has asked juniors and seniors to pretend to drive drunk, all to keep them safe on prom night. They use a drunk driving simulator, where they actually get to drive!
Using golf carts borrowed from ledges golf club, and MASS D.O.T. cones, they navigate a course on the baseball field. Each student was given a pair of these vision impaired goggles and then had to drive with them on. Some of the goggles showed what it was like to have a blood alcohol level of .25.
